Spring in Texas

The cold should be over and we are all doing yard & garden work. Need a break? Come take one of our classes for a couple hours. You can also relax at our Sunday afternoon Asylums.

In keeping with social distancing, we are keeping our classes small with 1-2 people per class, so some classes are happening more than once.

Beginner Classes

We offer beginning knitting and crochet classes at your convenience.  Our goal in these classes is to give you enough knowledge that you can walk out and go stitch a scarf!  We will also point you to online resources that can help you continue learning and advancing in your fiber quest.  Cost for beginner classes is $30 for instruction only or $40 for instruction plus supplies.  By appointment only.

Crochet 101 – Fridays – Tuesdays: 3-5 pm – We cover chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and how to finish a project.  We also discuss other crochet stitches, such as a half double crochet and treble crochet, as variations of those we learn in class.

Knitting 101 – Fridays – Tuesdays: 3-5 pm – We cover casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, and binding off.  If time allows we will also show you some patterns and designs you can make using only those two stitches!

We also offer more advanced and pattern classes that change from month to month.  Be sure to sign up for our newsletter or check our calendar to stay updated on what we’ll be offering next!  (We promise we won’t send out more than two emails per month.)

Private Instruction

$15 per hour: By appointment only

Already know a thing or two about knit or crochet?  Or can’t make the Saturday 101 classes?  Private instruction with any of our staff may be right up your alley!  We’ll have you feeling like a pro in no time!

Monthly Classes for March 2021 – Sign up here!

Knit Pray Love Hat (knit): Fri, Mar 5th, 2 pm – 4 pm

Sun, Mar 14th, 2 pm – 4 pm

$20 without yarn – $30 with suggested yarn

The hat was inspired by the idea that messages of love and hope are all around, often hidden in plain sight. It uses knit and purl stitches to create rows of encoded words spelled out in Morse Code’s distinctive pattern of dots and dashes.

This hat pattern is suitable for beginner knitters and is a way to take your knits & purls to another level & learn to knit in the round using Magic Loop. . The pattern is offered in one size that fits most teens and adults with head circumference of 22-24 inches (56 – 61cm).

Suggested Yarns: Arno, Brisbane, Llama Una

King William Socks (knit): Sun, Mar 7th, 3 pm – 5 pm

Sun, Mar 21st, 3 pm – 5 pm

$20 without yarn – $50 with suggested yarn

Named after her husband, Anne designed these socks for self-striping yarns originally; however they work well with all types of sock yarns. They also work well for beginners and can be worked cuff-down if you prefer.

They can be fine tuned size-wise by going up or down needle size.

The contrast color used was about 20g and the main color used was approximately 50-60g total.

Part 1 – Toe & Foot

Part 2 – March 21st – Heel & Leg

Suggested Yarns (2 colors): Happy Feet, Huasco Sock, ONline Linie 12 Street

Spring Feverish Kerchief (knit): Fri, Mar 9th, 2 pm – 4 pm

Sun, Mar 28th, 2 pm – 4 pm

$15 without yarn – $20 with suggested yarn

It can be worn as a neckerchief or a headwrap, and features good, sturdy lace and a button closure. This design uses only 130-140 yards of yarn- fingering/sport sock, so is a great stash buster. (Price includes the single pattern.)

Suggested Yarns: ONline 12 Street, Perth, Milky Whey

Bunny Garland (crochet): Sat, Mar 13th, 3 pm – 5 pm
$10 without yarn – $55 with suggested yarn

How cute is this? It is a granny-square base but also teaches how to make the puff stitch. Great for scraps and to decorate your breakfast area for Easter and/or spring.

Suggested Yarns: Encore – worsted or chunky, DK Merino Superwash, Brisbane

Events & Upcoming Classes:

Squares for Veterans

We NEED lots of squares for these highly worthy men and women.  Come in and help us make them and join them into blankets to be donated to the VA hospital.  It’s also a great way to teach kids 8+ how to slip stitch and maybe even single crochet!

Are you addicted to yarn? Yeah, so are we! Come sit with us and get to know other local fiber junkies. It’s yarn therapy!!!

Due to Covid, our regular Asylums are suspended; however, please feel free to come Sunday afternoons (bring your own chair) & sit out on our “patio” where social distancing can be practiced.
